Apendicitis

Appendicitis is one of the most common pediatric surgical emergencies.  Despite sophisticated imaging techniques, it remains primarily a diagnosis that can be made by careful history and physical examination.

History-Anorexia is the initial symptom and often precedes the development of pain by hours. Pain when it commences is often vague, central abdominal or periumbilical in location. The initial pain is of visceral origin, referred through splanchnic nerves an incited by appendiceal distention.
